Types of contextual advertising

There are two types of contextual advertising –  search and thematic.

Search advertising  is shown as a search results in engines such as Google, Yahoo or Seznam.

Thematic advertising  is shown on websites, that are a part of a search engine’s advertising network. Usually the subject of that website is similar to the one of your ad. For example, you advertize your magazine, which describes life in Czech Republic. Your ad will be shown to people, who are looking up weather in that country, because these people are most likely to be interested in your offer.

advertising cost = price for 1 clickthrough × number of clicks

Pricing for one clickthrough is defined based on the price of two parameters:

  • keywords, by which users will search for your website (subject competition and display region play a significant role)
  • placement of your ad (the more noticeable the place – the higher the price)

Number of clickthroughs is predetermined based on the real requests statistics for such keywords from previous months.
